The Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF) is leading the Resilient Reefs initiative, which aims to support reef managers and communities to adopt a new methodology for resilience-based management, implement a targeted suite of priority actions that will demonstrate the value of local actions to build resilience and inspire and influence the wider global coral reef community to get involved. Sharing the goal of using design to contribute to the resilience of reef ecosystems, adjacent communities, and impacted economies in light of existential climate hazards and vulnerabilities, GBRF, 100 Resilient Cities (100RC), and the Center for Resilient Cities and Landscapes (CRCL) are partnering to deliver site-specific Accelerator workshops at three reef sites towards the following objectives: Align stakeholders around a common understanding of risk and vulnerability, strategic objectives; take stock of existing projects, initiatives and program; develop and prioritize initial approaches to holistic interventions that address vulnerabilities; and, identify key actions to advancing project directions including development of a funding framework, stakeholder engagement strategy, and policy/governance strategy.
